Barnagar is called the Varanasi (Kashi) of Bengal. Because the beautiful temples are present here. It is a perfect religious place. Barnagar is situated on the west bank of river Bhagirathi, and 1 kilometre north from Azimganj City railway station. All temples in this area were erected in 18th century (1714-1793 A.D.) by Rani Bhawani of Natore.
The main heritages of this area are as follows:-

CHARBANGLA TEMPLE:
Description:
This temple was one of the greatest contributions of Rani Bhawani. There are four Ekbangla temples with marvelous terracotta panels in the four corners of a square shaped courtyard. Collectively this style is called Charbangla style. Each temple has the same length-breadth-height (9.5 × 4.5 × 5 metre). The temples are stood on a base of about 1.5 metre high, three Shiva- lingas in each. The famous researcher David Maccachyan spent a pretty long time here for his works.

RAMNATHESWAR TEMPLE:
Description:
It is the oldest temple of Barnagar area. This is one doored Shiva temple of Charchala style. There is a large Shiva-linga which is now un-worshipped. Over the main entrance of this temple an inscription shows that it was built in 1741 A.D. by a person named Ramnath.

BHABANISWAR TEMPLE:
Description:
This is the highest temple (18 metre) in Murshidabad district. Eight- angled this temple has covered verandas in eight corners. Its roof is an inverted lotus shaped dome. This type of temples are found in Murshidabad in a large number so this is called as Murshidabad style. This temple is enriched by terracotta works.

RAJRAJESWARI TEMPLE:
Description:
It is a south- fronted, three- doored, unornamented temple. In this temple the main image is Mahisasuramardini (The Goddess Durga fighting with Mahisasura) with her sons and daughters. The height of the image is of 1.25 metre which is made of eight metals. At the left of this main image another two images of the Goddess Jaidurga and Karunamayee are present. These are made of brass.

GANGESWAR TEMPLE:
Description:
It is a Shiva temple of Jorabangla style (A group of two temples, having a common side wall). This temple has three porticos and having the length, breadth, and height are 8 metre, 7 metre, and 8 metre respectively. In each temple there are three Shiva-lingas.
