Berhampore - this name has come from Brahmapur. In Vaisnava literature of 16th century Brahmapur was mentioned. But today's Berhampore was established after the battle of Plassey (1757 A.D.).
The main heritages of this area are: -

BARRACK SQUARE FIELD:
Year of Erection:
It is erected in between 1757 A.D. and 1765 A.D. by the the then East India Company. Location: At Berhampore Cantonment mouza. J.L. No 97. Description: This large, square shaped field's sides are of 400 metre each. There are four underground drains and four surface drains, four heavy canons at four corners are still the main attractions of this area. Engineer: Mr. John Brohier.

YELLOW HOUSE:
Year of Erection:
It is erected in 1767 A.D. Location: It is located at the west of Barrack Square Field. Description: It is the residence of District Magistrate of Murshidabad now-a-days, along with the Circuit House too. Robert Clive and Warren Hestings resided here.

OLD COLLECTORATE BUILDING:
Year of Erection:
It is erected in 1767 A.D. Location: East of Barrack Square Field. Description: Soldiers of East India Company lived here which became afterwards the office of the District Collector.

KRISHNATH COLLEGE:
Year of Establishment:
It is established in 1853 A.D. Location: South- West corner of the cantonment. Description: This college was previously called as Berhampore college, established at 1845 A.D. at Barrack Square. The present building was built in 1859 A.D. Maharaja Krishnath who was one of the members of Bengali Renaissance, offered the land for this college. The plan of this college was adopted in the style of the Oxford University. There is a clock tower in the western side. Rev. Lalbehari Dey, E.M.S.Whieler, Pandit Ramgati Nayaratna, Acharya Brajendranath Seal were the faculty members. The famous freedom fighters and martyrs Masterda Surya Sen and Nalini Bagchi were the students. In this year this college is going to celebrate its 150 years function.

KRISHNATH COLLEGIATE SCHOOL:
Year of Erection:
It is erected in 1908 A.D. by Maharaja Manindra Chandra Nandi. Location: North-West corner of the Cantonment. Description: Actually this school was established in 1854 A.D. The present building was erected in 1908 A.D. by the donation of Maharaja Manindra Chandra Nandi. This building was planned by the principal E.M.S.Whieler on the idea of Cossimbazar House. Rev. Lalbehari Dey was the headmaster from 1867 A.D. to 1872 A.D.

GRANT HALL:
Year of Erection:
1911 A.D. by Mr. J. Marion and later by Raja Rao Yogendranarayana. Location: North- West of the Barrack Square Field, Plot No.- 731. History: The Grant Hall (Now Yogendranarayana Milani) was founded in the honour of Mr. John Peter Grant, the Lieutenant- Governor of Bengal. Raja Rao Yogendranarayana purchased this house from Superintendent Mr. J. Marion at the cost of Rs.-2000/- only and donated to the enlightened citizens of Berhampore for establishing a cultural centre with library and stage.

THE CHURCH:
Year of Erection:
It is erected in 19th century. Location: Plot No.- 855 and 856. History: After demolition of the church of Barrack Square Field, this church was erected. This is a beautiful building with a Sun- Dial at its front.
