It is the most important area of Murshidabad district. Because it was the capital of Nawabs, so here a large number of attractive objects are present.

HAZARDUARI PALACE
Period of Erection:
1829A.D.-1837A.D. by Nawab Nazim Humayunjah. Location: 2.5 kilometre west of Murshidabad railway station. Architectural Importance: It is a palace of Italian style, length, breadth and height are 130, 60 and 24.5 metre respectively. It has 37 black steps made of basalt stone at the main entrance. The lowermost step is about 33 metre long. These steps lead upto upper portico. Architect: General Duncan McLeoyd. Expences: Rs.-18,00000/-.

WASEF MANJIL
It was built by Nawab Wasef Ali Mirja in 1898A.D. for his own housing. It is at the south of Hazarduari palace and near to the South Gate of Killah. This beautiful palace was built under the supervision of a Bengali engineer Surendra Barat.
Now-a-days it is a museum.

FOUTI MOSQUE
Location :
West of Katra Mosque.Description: An incomplete mosque erected by Nawab Sarfraj Khan in 1739-40A.D. Before completion he was died at the battle of Giria. After him none can forward to complete it.Architectural Importance: It is a large mosque with five domes of which two at the south are completed. Though it is incomplete, yet it is one of the remarkable mosques of Murshidabad for its sculptured architecture.

TOMB OF SARFRAJ KHAN AND BEGUM MOSQUE
Location:
Very near to the Murshidabad railway station. Description: This tomb is very simple and without any speciality. Sarfraj Khan was the only Nawab of Murshidabad who was killed in the battlefield of Giria in 1740A.D. His dead body was brought to Murshidabad and buried with full concealment. There was a palace of Sarfraj Khan adjacent to this grave, but now that has no existence. Only one mosque stands there which was built by his mother or wife. That is Begum Mosque. Year of Erection: 1719A.D.

KATRA MOSQUE
Location:
1.5 kilometre north-east of Murshidabad railway station, west of Berhampore- lalgola highway. Period of Erection: 1723-24A.D. by the first Nawab, Murshid Quli Khan. Architectural Importance: It is one of the largest mosques of West Bengal, built under the inspiration of the mosque of Mecca. At western part of the broad courtyard the mosque is set up. It is 40 metre and 7.5 metre in length and breadth respectively. The roof was made of five large domes of diameter 15 metre. But now only two of them are present. At north- west and south- west corners of the mosque there are two minarets of 22 metre high. From the top of any minaret the whole Murshidabad city is visible. Manufacturer: Morad Faras. Important Feature: The tomb of Nawab Murshid Quli Khan is in a small room under the steps to the courtyard.

KADAMRASUL MOSQUE
Location:
1.5 kilometre south from the Katra mosque, east of Berhampore- Lalgola highway. Year of Erection: 1882A.D. by Nazir Basant Ali Khan and Etoar Ali Khan to teach Islamic education. Importance: Holy Kadam Rasul (Foot print of Hazarat Mohammad) is kept in this small and beautiful mosque. A small burial ground, adjacent to this mosque increases the attraction of this spot. Here the tomb of Basant Ali Khan is present.
